US Company Launches RadonAway® Fans in Europe

Since the creation of the first radon-specific inline fan under the brand RadonAway®, Spruce Environmental Technologies Inc. has worked for over 25 years to improve indoor air quality. On March 30th, Spruce sent the first shipment of RadonAway fans to their UK and Ireland distributor, PropertECO, marking their launch of European radon fans.

Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc. was the first company to introduce a radon-specific inline fan 25 years ago, under the RadonAway® brand. These fans are known throughout the radon industry for their unparalleled quality, effectiveness, and reliability. RadonAway now offers a complete line of radon fans and remediation accessories, and is a major supplier to national and international radon professionals. On March 30th, RadonAway sent their first shipment of fans to PropertECO, the company’s UK and Ireland distributor.

PropertECO is the right partner for us, as they are the thought leaders in the UK and Ireland on radon mitigation and testing. We look forward to assisting the radon industry in Europe,” says Spruce’s Director of Sales, Ryan Richie. PropertECO’s Rebecca Coates and Martin Freeman recently won The Pitch UK's entrepreneurial competition, and were named Britain’s Best Small Business of 2014. Spruce and this innovative company are working together to lower the radon death toll in the UK and throughout Europe. Public Health England reports that radon causes over 1,100 deaths per year in the UK.

"The introduction of a range of fans backed with 25 years of engineering and development, enabling contractors to select the most appropriate model for each given scenario, is a major step forward in the European radon mitigation market."

PropertECO, along with other European industry professionals, have been searching for the right radon products, and have now found the ideal equipment to benefit the needs of the company and its clients in the RadonAway brand. “The introduction of a range of fans backed with 25 years of engineering and development,” says Rebecca, “enabling contractors to select the most appropriate model for each given scenario, is a major step forward in the European radon mitigation market.”

Executive Vice President Dave Hill has been at the forefront of Spruce’s efforts to understand and track the growth of the radon industry in Europe. “It wasn’t until our new partners at PropertECO provided research and information about the emerging radon mitigation market in the UK, that we knew it was time to get involved,” remarks Dave on breaking into the European radon business. “With their assistance, our fact-finding trip to England gave us first-hand knowledge of mitigation techniques used there and the market size.” This essential information about radon overseas, combined with new professional relationships, provided the necessary foundation for introducing RadonAway fans to the European market.

One of the important market drivers in the European radon industry is the Basic Safety Standards Directive, which will require a Radon Action Plan for all EU members by 2018. Martin Freeman, who sits on the Executive Committee of the European Radon Association, confirms that each country’s plan must include, “not only information about how each country will increase awareness of radon, arrange radon testing programs and protect new buildings from radon entry, but it must also provide guidance about how existing buildings found to contain elevated levels will be mitigated.” Using  the RadonAway model of effective radon education along with a network of qualified professionals and the highest quality radon products available on the market, the company will offer their expertise to their new European partners as they take this important step forward.

Of Spruce’s future in Europe, Ryan Richie says, “We plan on exhibiting RadonAway fans at the upcoming ‘Radon in the Environment 2015’ conference held in Krakow, Poland, as well as regional events in the UK.  There, radon mitigators will get an up close look and explanation on how our radon fans work.” Spruce and RadonAway will continue to be important resources for the EU as each country works to establish their national Radon Action Plan and individual industry leaders select the best remediation supplies for their customers. Inspired by the success of their preliminary efforts in the European market, Spruce is pleased to continue moving forward as a leader in the international radon remediation effort.
