Spruce Environmental Technologies Goes Greener

Spruce, an Energy Star Partner and parent company of RadonAway and AccuStar Labs, has converted its headquarters to solar energy as part of its commitment to sustaining and improving the environment.

Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc., an Energy Star® Partner, recently completed the installation of solar roof panels on its Ward Hill, Massachusetts, headquarters building.

Spruce, a manufacturer of inline ventilation fans, is the parent company of RadonAway, the world's leading radon fan manufacturer; AccuStar Labs, a nationally certified radon testing lab that manufactures and distributes radon test devices and analyzes test results; and HomeAire, a manufacturer and distributor of indoor air quality products.

For more than twenty years, Spruce has been committed to researching and developing new technologies, techniques, products, and services to make the indoor environment a healthier, safer place in which to live. The company is equally committed to sustaining and improving the environment in general. Converting to solar power for its main operations and manufacturing center is a natural extension of this long-time commitment.

The construction of the 75-kilowatt rooftop solar array, which started on August 3, took several weeks to complete. "With the installation of a system that captures solar energy," says David Kapturowski, Spruce's Executive Vice President, "our Ward Hill building will be generating one-third of our electrical needs from the sun. As an added bonus, when Spruce is not using the solar energy generated by our new system (weekends, holidays, etc.) the unused power will be available to National Grid for use elsewhere."
